Traditional design is always in style. It is also a great way to pay homage to the past, your family roots, and the home itself. This project is all about breathing new life into the home, with an updated aesthetic that gives a nod to the past and an eye towards the future. 

The clients wanted to foster a fun, beautiful, and inviting space for their large family. They love to entertain and asked that each of their rooms serve a functional purpose while feeling approachable and relaxed.

Let’s begin in the family room. Layered in color and texture, the warm color palette steaming from the beautiful custom rug works nicely with the built in accents and bright Lake Erie views. The dark gray sofa, rich in texture, grounds the room, which was needed with the bright red hues in the rug. 

An oversized ottoman to use for game nights, puzzle-making, and a padded spot to put your feet up, was a top request from the client. This custom leather ottoman, does not disappoint. Coming in at an incredible three foot by four foot size, this ottoman is big enough to do everything the client was looking for and more.

We love this whimsical fabric that pulls in all of the colors from the rug.

Another highlight of the space were the armchairs. We reupholstered two of the family’s favorite chairs — that are, in fact, Paysage International original pieces!  A light performance fabric was used to keep the fresh look we were trying to achieve.

An element of traditional style is utilizing antique, vintage pieces. This small console does just that.  Styled with a small lamp and a framed watercolor, this gorgeous piece is perfect next to the fireplace.

For the dining room, we updated the chandelier above an original, heirloom dining set from the client. The patina of the chandelier is a perfect match to this antique set. Using cherished family pieces within a new design will create necessary layers for visual interest. 

Add in new elements with color, interest, and warmth to create a new feeling within a space. The trio of blue and white ceramic pieces, not only break up the brown tones but also carried in the blue from the adjacent family room.

In the bar area, we included high-back stools covered in a light performance fabric to freshen up the space and give a visual break to the heavy wood tones of the bar.

In the sitting room, we reupholstered the love seat and added the animal print pillows for a bit of sass. The two leather recliners helped to create a more casual vibe to this space. A perfect spot for the clients to enjoy the fireplace in true comfort.

Have you ever had a rug that you love, but it’s a little too small for your space? These clients had the same obstacle. To enlarge the footprint of the detailed oriental rug, we added this neutral, natural textured rug underneath to ground the space.

Moving over to the side wall of the sitting room, the window seat was the best seat in the entire house (according to the Hunger family’s dog). So, of course this adorable homage to their furry friend using a dog print fabric was a must when choosing textiles for the pillow coverings.

In the kitchen, we added these iron, fabric, and rope adorned backless counter stools to give a wave to all things nautical. Perfect for this Lake Erie loving family!
