The Majestic Marina Home, Coastal and Casual

This space is for a family who loves to entertain.

May 10, 2023

This majestic marina home graces the shores of Lake Erie. With natural light and magnificent views, this is the perfect space for a family who loves to entertain and relax.

When the Maison Maison design team first hit the drawing board, we took inspiration from a colorful fish the client had bought through an art gallery. This piece was used to set the tone of the entire space. When starting out a project, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, focus on one piece you love, and use that piece to select other design elements.

We paired the fish art with a spindle chair complete with navy window pane fabric to add a masculine flair.

For the living room, a white sectional serves as a cozy anchor point for the space.

We included a beautiful custom made wool rug with hints of cream and periwinkle to tie the room together. The blue leather ottoman against the white sectional gives a bold pop of color to the living room, available to use as a footrest, game space, or coffee table.

We think swivel chairs are a must in a large entertaining space, so adding beautiful velvet swivel chairs not only added a unique color and texture, but function.

Large walls can often be overwhelming, so we used board and batten to break it up into an otherwise blank canvas to add visual interest. Another beautiful piece of art the client found on her travels is a perfect addition over the top of this large console.

The stunning light-filled kitchen coordinates with the living room through shades of blue. Looking back to the original piece of client art, we painted the kitchen cabinet color a periwinkle blue. The table is a beautiful setting for casual family dinners, and the rattan chairs provide texture against the table.

We chose a dark navy tweed performance fabric with the dark wood legs to help to ground all of the light finishes in the kitchen.

Coordinating accessories are a must. Tying in elements of texture, color, and function bring warmth to the space. Never clutter your countertops with multiple appliances, feature the most used in your kitchen and make them cute!

Consider the island a blank canvas. Don’t be afraid to change it out with a fun element often – be it fresh flowers in a vase, or a bowl of fresh fruit from the market.

Even the entry of the home marks a statement and sets the stage with nods to the colors and material used throughout.

‘This beautiful home achieves a relaxed and inviting lake life vibe by conscientiously blending in color, form and function throughout the space, taking into consideration how each element works together holistically,’ Michele Ahern, designer at Maison Maison, said.
