No, we are not talking about food here… we’ll leave that up to our designer Joe with his fabulous recipes! But, you can’t talk pillows without talking about the pillow chop. Some designers love it, some dislike it. I am personally a big fan of pillow chopping! I guess you can say I’m a “chopaholic”. I walk into our showroom and immediately begin chopping our pillows.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term “pillow chopping”, it describes a way of shaping a pillow. It is achieved by fluffing a down filled pillow and using a karate chop motion to create an indentation in the top of the pillow. This can only be achieved with pillows that are filled with mostly down feathers. If a pillow is filled with foam, you cannot manipulate it nearly as well.
Chopped pillows look neat, tidy and they invite relaxation. They can also highlight and showcase the incredible softness and texture of a beautiful fabric. Fabrics with a slight sheen can look amazing.
I’m sure there are different degrees of chopping. I prefer a slight soft hand that yields a small dent and then I press in the sides to bring out the fullness of the pillow.
There is no “right or wrong”! Chopping is really a personal preference. Stop by our showroom and let us show you our beautifully “chopped” pillows. We have a variety of pillows ready for purchase and custom options to meet your unique needs.
Until next time…chop away! Just don’t go too far and recreate the scene in the movie “Along Came Polly”!
